Jennifer Maggio is an amazing nurse who went above and beyond while I stayed on her floor of the hospital. I had just given birth to my fourth child, and it had been a difficult pregnancy as my baby was diagnosed at 28 weeks with a rare and serious heart defect. Because of this diagnosis, my baby was immediately taken from me after I delivered, something that is really hard for a new mom to bear. Also, I was informed that the recovery floor for new moms was at capacity, so I would need to stay on the Labor and Delivery floor until a bed became available. When my OB came to talk with me, she suggested I go to another floor to recover as my baby would not be with me since it had been taken to the NICU with a variety of unforeseen health complications.
When I arrived on Jennifer's floor, she recognized that the situation was not ideal and provided such a welcoming tone as she got me settled into my room. She did so much to make me comfortable and to accommodate me, from making sure the NICU number was on my board, to having a wheelchair outside my door so I could go to the NICU at my leisure. When I called for Jennifer, she was in my room before I could finish my sentence. My husband was gone for periods of time inquiring about the health of our baby and Jennifer took the time to take my mind off the situation and have conversations with me. When I got a call at midnight that things were looking very bad with my baby, and that he needed a blood transfusion, Jennifer was there to listen to my concerns and fears for his health. I really consider it a blessing that I ended up on that floor because my recovery was greatly helped by the calm of the floor and a great nurse who made my first night in the hospital as restful as it could be.
