Words will never fully capture the impact she had on this family and those of us who witnessed her care.
Words can’t fully express how amazing Jenn is as a nurse, co-worker, empathic listening ear, and a quiet, supportive presence to those in need. She is not just an exceptional nurse, but an overall incredible human being. Jenn took a leap of faith and moved to San Antonio from Nebraska to join our Pediatric Supportive Care team. While most of her background was in caring for adult hospice patients. She embraced this new challenge with humility and enthusiasm. From day one, Jenn was eager to learn and quickly formed meaningful connections with our pediatric patients and their families. Her compassion, empathy, and professionalism are evident in her every interaction. She is committed to our patient population and their families. She has such a kind heart. She takes pride in everything she does, day in and day out, no matter how hard or challenging the day or case load is. She never complains. Her unwavering commitment to improving the lives of our patients, their families, and University Health staff. She makes it a point to have each and every one of our patients, families, and staff members feel like they are seen, heard, and valued. She embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award through her compassion, dignity, and respect for others. Her dedication to improving the lives of our patients and their families inspires me and those who have the privilege of working alongside her. Jenn is truly a shining example of what Pediatric Supportive Care nursing is all about. She goes above and beyond every single day; our patients, families, and staff are better because of her. Our team often does very heavy, heartfelt work, and at times it can be overwhelming, but Jenn handles it with such grace. Recently, our team had several socially complex pediatric end-of-life cases. In one particular case, she essentially became that family’s hospice nurse. Each day, she walked the mother, nursing, and staff through the dying process. Gently explaining what signs to look for and what physical changes the body makes at the end of life. This case was extremely difficult, since this wasn’t the typical patient for this unit. Jenn came in early and stayed late to ensure the family and staff were taken care of. Words will never fully capture the impact she had on this family and those of us who witnessed her care. Her compassion, knowledge, and presence provided comfort during an unimaginable time. Through her expert knowledge and skills, Jenn received her Hospice and Palliative Care Certification. As well as her ELNEC Trainer Certification, allowing her to educate nurses and staff on providing exceptional care for patients at the end of life. She continues to make a difference in the lives of our patients. I truly appreciate her dedication, support, and the care she provides to our vulnerable populations. It’s an honor to nominate Jenn for the DAISY Award. She exudes everything this award stands for: kindness, empathy, compassion, and patient-centered care.
