From the moment she introduced herself, she treated him with such kindness, patience, and respect.
After a long and emotionally exhausting day full of staff changes and uncertainty, Jen came in as our night nurse, and everything changed. My 14-year-old son, who has anxiety and adjustment disorder, typically struggles with new people and transitions, especially in a medical setting. But Jen had an immediate and calming presence that made him feel safe and seen.
From the moment she introduced herself, she treated him with such kindness, patience, and respect. What truly stood out was how she gave him a voice. She spoke directly to him, listened carefully, and gave him the space to express himself, something he rarely does without first looking to me for reassurance. But with Jen, he didn't do that. He engaged with her confidently and independently, and for the first time in days, I saw a glimmer of comfort and ease in him amidst a very difficult time.
It might have been a regular shift for Jen, but to us, it was something so much more. Her compassion, professionalism, and genuine care made a lasting impression, and I'll always be grateful for the way she helped my son feel like more than just a sick kid. She helped him feel human again.
