Jeff sensed that my dad, "a tough guy," was actually very nervous and found an "In" to talk with him about, to build trust - his broken Lazy Susan in his kitchen.
My dad is in his late 60s, tough as nails, and has had limited involvement with the healthcare system throughout his life aside from his PCP. He was very anxious about his Cardiac Ablation, and I was very worried he would not go through with the procedure. Thankfully, we had nurse Jeff, who helped him to feel comfortable in the hospital both upon his arrival and after his procedure. Jeff sensed that my dad, "a tough guy," was actually very nervous and found an "In" to talk with him about, to build trust - his broken Lazy Susan in his kitchen. The small act set the tone for my dad being more comfortable in the hospital, both prior to and after his cardiac ablation. My dad did experience some abnormal bleeding a few hours post-procedure, and Jeff handled it quickly and professionally. He surveyed the acuity level and promptly addressed the issue, quickly notified the physician, and checked on my dad regularly to ensure he was recovering. As the only family member there, I was concerned about the amount of bleeding so long after his procedure time, but Jeff reassured me that the care team was on top of it and my dad would be ok. Although I was not in the room with my dad for a bit while they addressed the bleeding hands-on, I saw Jeff going in and out of my dad's room every couple of minutes to address my dad's needs. Jeff helped my dad get dressed too for discharge, and my dad left the hospital saying that Jeff was a great nurse and he's happy he had him to help him throughout the day. My family wishes to formally thank Jeff for his excellence in patient care and commend his professionalism and commitment to the recovery process. Thank you, Nurse Jeff, for your compassion and expertise!
