Jeanine had a very difficult case in the observation unit recently. The patient was ready to be discharged and the medication they needed was very expensive even though he had insurance coverage. The patient's copay was $1,000 so Jeanine worked with the doctor, drug manufacturer, and the insurance company all day making calls and filling out forms. This was necessary in order to help this patient. She was able to work with the drug manufacturer to get the patient the necessary assistance to get the medication without having to pay the $1,000 copay and she had the medications expedited overnight to the patient's home for the next day (day after discharge). Her work shows compassion for the patient and she is a true example of the People Centered Care. Jeanine is always smiling no matter how busy or stressed she is. She is always a great resource to the nursing team in the observation unit.
