She told me I was strong enough to do it naturally and held my hand as I experienced the scariest and most beautiful time of my whole life.
I was going to give birth to my first child, and Nurse Jazmine Sharrit took excellent care of my child and me from the moment I walked in, scared and unsure what to expect. I had a birth plan that was very specific and was hoping to have a natural birth. Jazmine comforted me when I found out my midwife, whom I had been seeing for my entire pregnancy, would not be able to come in to deliver my baby. Jazmine encouraged me and reassured me that we would still go by the birth plan I had spent months putting together. She told me I was strong enough to do it naturally and held my hand as I experienced the scariest and most beautiful time of my whole life. I have epilepsy, and Jazmine knew about my condition and reassured me that I would be safe, and she advocated for me to do things my way, all in accordance with hospital standards, of course.
Jazmine coached me through getting my baby to latch, and she treated us with respect and kindness, making us feel like the top priority. She showed me how to take care of my wounds and gave me emotional support when I was scared and going through tons of emotions and physical pain. When other nurses and even other staff came in, there was a huge difference in the level of support and care they provided. Jazmine was by far the most respectful, caring, attentive, supportive, and all-around quality nurse I have ever had, and definitely the one a new mother would dream of having there in those big life moments. If I ever have another child, I hope she will be my nurse, and when anyone asks me about labor and delivery at St. Francis, I will mention her name.
