Being a fellow nurse myself at NW and knowing some of the nursing staff in the ER, you might expect me, as a family member, to act cool, calm, and collected, but that wasn’t the case. I received a phone call from family letting me know my elderly father was headed to the NW ER via ambulance after being attacked by my brother. I arrived prior to the ambulance and immediately saw a familiar face. Jaylin was there to help and comfort me during a time when I didn’t know what condition my dad was in. Anyone who knows me knows that he’s my world as I am his… just something about a daddy-daughter relationship, and Jaylin fully understood every bit of that. As he was getting out of the ambulance, I couldn’t stand to look at his beat-up, bloody, and swollen face. I was an absolute disaster. Seeing the strongest man I know like that tore me apart, and of course, his being the strong one is just telling me he’s okay, as Jaylin hugged and comforted my inconsolable self in the ambulance bay. She was there to assure me he was okay and everything was going to be fine. He was placed in a room, and Jaylin, along with her fellow nurses, cleaned off his bloody face and neck prior to me coming into the room, so I didn’t have to see my sweet daddy like that. There are not enough words to express how thankful I am that Jaylin was there that day. I needed that familiar, friendly face more than she will ever know. The staff in the ER were absolutely amazing and offered us the best care.
