As soon as I met Jayde, I immediately felt comfortable and safe with her.
As a nurse within Wellstar, I wanted to ask friends who their favorite L&D nurse was so that I could request that nurse to have the very best on the day of my induction. I never got around to doing that, and I decided to let go and let God take over every aspect of my delivery that day- and he could not have chosen a better nurse to care for me during my delivery. As soon as I met Jayde, I immediately felt comfortable and safe with her. My delivery with Jayde as my nurse was so different than my first delivery and in all the best ways possible. She knew I was trying for a VBAC and that my previous C-section was due to failure to progress, so first thing that morning she informed me that we were going to be moving around a lot and changing positions frequently that day because that would help progress labor the most. She was at my side for almost every minute of the day. When my epidural wasn't working properly, she advocated for me to get proper pain management to make me as comfortable as possible. She even advocated for me to get a new epidural, which I didn't even know was an option because she wanted to help me reach my goal of optimal pain management. She asked for consent prior to every position change, and cervix check, and notified me any time she titrated medications. I felt so involved and so well-informed throughout my entire delivery. There were several times when I felt like giving up on my goal of having a VBAC, but she encouraged and supported me through all the contractions, pain, and pushing, and never made me feel like a C-section was even an option because she knew how much I wanted a VBAC, and she knew we could make it happen. She calmed me and helped guide my breathing and was so kind and patient, even when I was stressed and in pain. Typing all of this, I know Jayde will say she was simply doing her job, but I wanted her to know that the way she carries herself as a nurse and an advocate should be the standard for how all nurses care for their patients. This experience with Jayde as my nurse was an amazing one and made an amazing day of bringing my second child into the world an even better one. We were honored that she was our nurse and I know she touches every patient she interacts with.
