My active, healthy 64 yr old husband, J, came into the ER with symptoms of a stroke. After assessment and treatment, he was moved to the ICU. We were so fortunate to have Javier assigned as J's critical care nurse. Javier brought expert care, genuine concern and an upbeat personality into our lives when we needed it most. As soon as we arrived in ICU, Javier was there to adjust the room temperature and cover J with blankets to make him comfortable.

Stroke protocol was followed at regular intervals for the next 24 hrs. Javier made sure that we knew when additional testing and results would be available. Javier understands that communication brings comfort. He obtained answers to all of our questions and provided follow-up assistance even after J's discharge from the hospital. Javier is one special person, he certainly has found his calling, one of the best in his field.

Javier is a great support to his team! When things get hectic, he is the calm in the storm. He is a strong support to both his leaders and teammates. Recently, Javier was visited by a patient he cared for over a year ago, who came to bring him sweets and give him a hug. He takes pride in his work and truly makes a difference.
