Jasmine went above and beyond to help a family fulfill their wish before their daughter was taken off respiratory support via compassionate extubation. The father of the patient had expressed that his last wish with his daughter was to be able to read a bedtime story to all of his kids (patient, her twin, and older sibling) while together in bed. It was a dream he had had for his children since the twins were born but unfortunately would not possibly be able to fulfill since the patient would not be going home.
Jasmine helped fulfill this wish by arranging to get an adult-size hospital bed brought to the patient's room the day the family would be visiting together. The father was able to hold and read to all of his children while in bed and make memories. The family was able to take pictures together one last time. Jasmine was instrumental in making sure this family felt supported during such a difficult time. The father's excitement was palpable. It was so moving to witness this moment Jasmine facilitated for the family that surely will become a lasting and impactful memory.
Jasmine went above and beyond to create this profoundly special moment for a family in one of their darkest times. She is not only a deeply loving, compassionate, and empathetic human, but an extraordinary nurse who makes a difference in the lives of her patients!
Some other examples of Jasmine going above and beyond for her patient include engaging with the patient’s older sibling and twin so that parents could have 1:1 time with patient, setting up and arranging a photoshoot for the family to capture memories of all three children together, coordinating multidisciplinary team so that family could take patient outside on patio to be in the sunlight together for the first time, and then advocating for patient to receive dignified end-of-life care during her last moments.
