I hope I can portray the vast gratitude that I have for a woman name Jasmine Palka in our unit. I could write a book about her outstanding efforts. There have been many, many, many examples of her commitment to the patients, staff, and overall prosperity in Observation Unit 1. Out of all of the staff here, she shines like a star. She is the keystone of the entire OBS Unit 1. A keystone is the one stone at the top of the huge arch that holds everything together to prevent collapse, just as Jasmine does for us.
A young man that has cerebral palsy came into our unit. Without any family visits, he was alone and sad. Jasmine went out of her way to be in his room whenever she could to comfort him and although he could not speak or respond in any way, she would go out of her way to make him smile. We all witnessed her knowledge and compassion as she assisted this young man in a speedy recovery; it was quite remarkable. She was constantly making sure that his pneumonia assessment, suctioning schedule, and repositioning were always being addressed.
It is evident to everyone that she deserves the DAISY Award because she is a great person. Jasmine encompasses the WakeMed Way. She exudes WakeMed values and principals 100% of the time.
