She was very patient with my family, answering all of our questions and keeping my mom comfortable during her long hours at my dad's bedside.
My dad was a patient in the STICU at PRMC. He was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, but had suffered a fall and broken his neck and back. After two surgeries on his neck, he started having seizures - the trauma of the breaks and surgery combined with the dementia, his brain was not healthy enough to recover, and we learned he would not be coming home.
My dad was a registered organ donor, but without brain death, we needed to wait for cardiac death, which meant he had a 2-hour window after they removed the ventilator, where his organs would still be viable for donation. My dad did not pass during these 2 hours, so he returned to the STICU and was admitted to hospice for end-of-life care.
Jasmin was my dad's nurse multiple times during his week-long stay in the STICU. After his first neck surgery, my dad stayed on the vent, but Jasmin continued to speak to him as if he were awake, always making him aware of when she was going to touch him and what she was doing.
We had a clash of personalities with one person from the organ donation group (everyone else on that team was absolutely wonderful), and Jasmin was quick to intervene, making sure that person communicated only through her instead of directly with my family.
Jasmin was always on top of my dad's situation, making sure he had his meds as soon as he needed them and keeping us updated with information from his many doctors and NPs. Jasmin was with us during my dad's last night in the STICU; she helped us through his Honor Walk and stayed with him in the OR, keeping him comfortable during the two-hour organ donation window and then after when he returned to his room. She kept a positive attitude and stayed dedicated to my dad's care and comfort during this difficult time. My family and I will be forever grateful to Jasmin. On top of her excellent care of my dad, she brought so much comfort to my mom and family with her unfailing kindness and compassion.
