Shortly after onboarding Janice expressed an interest in working in Oncology and began her orientation to the unit. The oncology team is comprised of an OCN, RN, CMA, PSS, Pharmacist, and Financial Counselor/Outreach Coordinator. Shortly after completing her orientation, the OCN and RN were transferred to the hospital leaving Janice; the PRN nurse as our lead in the clinic. Janice recognized the need to create tools and aids to help other PRN nurses who would be covering in our clinic.
Janice has selfishly gone home every evening and spent countless hours of her own time studying and creating various resources and tools to help other PRN nurses who would be floating to our clinic until RN and OCN can be replaced. Janice went above and beyond her role as a PRN nurse to ensure safe quality care for our patients and provide a level of comfort for staff as they are orienting to the unit. During this transition the patients encountered a variety of caregivers; Janice did an exceptional job of calming their fears, creating a positive team environment and made the transition as seamless as possible.
The patients absolutely adore her; she is always positive, smiling and looking for opportunities to empower them in their care. She should be recognized for her intuition, dedication, compassion, leadership, professionalism and grace. Janice remains a PRN nurse and serves as the lead in our clinic. She has oriented countless nurses to the unit and is enrolled to take her OCN. She should be commended for stepping up, engaging and continuing to follow thru with a difficult staffing situation. As a team member she exemplifies integrity. Her work ethics are perfectly aligned with our mission, vision and values.
