Janet went above and beyond and truly advocated for her patient.
A 31-year-old patient was admitted to the observation unit. This patient is a paraplegic from a gunshot wound that occurred four months prior. The patient was admitted for constipation and pain in his back. The patient had one wound on his back that was giving him a lot of trouble since his injury he stated that he still had a bullet in his skin. He said it gave him a lot of issues, and his family had tried to remove it at home but was unsuccessful. He had told his doctors and nurses previously about it, but nothing was ever done about it.

Janet is well versed in many things and pays attention to detail, having been a wound nurse earlier in her career, she looked at it and noticed that there was some infection around the area. She contacted the Doctor and the wound nurses to examine the wound. General surgery was consulted, and the shrapnel was removed from the patient's back at bedside. The patient was so thankful and stated that the sharp/stabbing back pain that he had been experiencing for months was gone.

Janet went above and beyond and truly advocated for her patient. Without her thorough exam and determination to help this patient, he might have lived with this pain for a lot longer.
