Even on days when Janet was not his assigned nurse but had a patient across the hall, she would pop her head in to ask how my dad was doing.
Our father recently suffered a stroke, which, during his hospital stay, also revealed kidney disease, congestive heart failure, and several other health concerns. He eventually ended up in rehab, but during his initial stay, he spent a week or two on 1 East. His entire hospital experience was relatively positive, but one nurse stood out above the rest. I'm unsure where to begin, and I'm certain that my words cannot adequately convey our gratitude for all that she did. Janet was such a delight with her ready smile and strong work ethic. She didn't mind doing anything, whether it was her actual job or perhaps the task of a tech who was unavailable. She checked into my dad's room regularly. This may not seem like such an outstanding act, but compared to the days when he did not have Janet as his nurse, the difference was noticeable. Even on days when Janet was not his assigned nurse but had a patient across the hall, she would pop her head in to ask how my dad was doing. There were times when I couldn't find our nurse, and Janet would see me in the hall looking for something and offer to get me the blanket or water I was seeking. She became like a friend whom we knew we could count on. We only had one traumatic event while we were there; my dad was in severe pain, and fortunately, Janet was our nurse for the day. She acted quickly and was able to communicate with the attending physician to get my dad the help he needed. It has been very difficult to see our once-strong father become so weak and vulnerable. The hospital stay has been hard on him and on me and my two brothers to witness. Janet made all the difference, and we just wanted to highlight what an outstanding employee and warm, caring human being she is. Thank you!
