My mom still talks about how Dad was so scared, in so much pain, unwell, feeling so much loss, deeply sad, and Jane swooped in and gave him dignity, joy, and the feeling of safety.
My dad spent 40 days on the 5th Floor. He was in the advanced stages of gastric cancer, and he was demoralized, in pain, and felt an incredible loss of dignity due to his failing body. Jane made Dad feel safe and respected.
My dad was a large man, and sometimes felt like certain people struggled to get him clean, and it could take forever. He had mentioned Jane by the time I came in state just a few days in. When I met Jane’s jovial spirit and caring, I understood! They became quick buddies. Jane was joyful and understanding. She kept him upbeat and laughing! Her responses to Dad were quick and intuitive.
Jane met Dad where he was and knew the right buttons to push by bringing who she was and her excellent care forward. He especially felt vulnerable at night, and on nights Jane was on, he felt safe. My mom still talks about how Dad was so scared, in so much pain, unwell, feeling so much loss, deeply sad, and Jane swooped in and gave him dignity, joy, and the feeling of safety.
Safety is such a fundamental need that we all forget in our world because it is so often met. And this beautiful soul swept in and made him feel whole and safe. I remember meeting Jane the first time! I watched my dad’s whole demeanor change. We were all laughing. Jane was good for all of our souls. Jane’s smile and joy brought my dad and us great comfort. Her care was second to none!
Thank you, Jane, for the joy, care, dignity, and respect! We are all so appreciative of the gift you gave to my Dad and my family.
