The night before my mom passed, Jamie even took those extra moments before leaving to try to do her hand prints with me.
My mother was a patient with very kind and compassionate nurses in the ICU at St. Luke's. Although my mom sadly passed away, I was thankful to have one nurse's support in the most difficult time. The two days leading up to the extubation were just as difficult as the actual day of her passing. I was not only faced with making such difficult decisions, but I was also in a hospital I was not familiar with. I was unable to transfer my mom to a hospital closer to home due to her condition. But with Jamie's support, compassion, communication, confidence, and level of skill, I began to build trust in the hospital and my decisions.
Not only did she manage my mom's level of care and requirements with ease, but there were little things that didn't go unnoticed. Such as her time management of the IV pumps, whereas as soon as the infusion was complete, she was in the room. Her bedside manner was exceptional with the balance of care, conversation, and privacy. She never seemed overwhelmed with such critical patients, multiple visitors, and the process with donor services.
The night before my mom passed, Jamie even took those extra moments before leaving to try to do her hand prints with me. When the dreaded morning came to extubate my mother in the OR, everyone kept asking me if I had any questions. My answer kept being no. Jamie told me this. Jamie told me that. Thank you for preparing me for everything and being calm in all the chaos. Although my mom passed away, it doesn't take away from the exceptional care that was provided to her. A nurse like Jamie should be recognized in the highest regard for going above and beyond. Thank you to all the staff for such a beautiful honor walk and for being so kind to my mom.
