They treated me with respect and asked me questions about myself, not clinical ones, but genuine questions, like you were catching up with an old friend.
I lost my eyesight in my right eye and spent 13 days at Butterworth Hospital on 7S. I was eventually diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. It was a very emotional experience, and I was scared, anxious, and felt like my world was crumbling. After I was discharged from Butterworth, I met with my neurologist, and we decided that the right course of treatment for my condition was to begin monthly infusions of Tysabri. Having to commit to a monthly infusion, plus an additional hour for observation, was not ideal, and I was dreading having to sit hooked up to an IV each month, as it represented a constant reminder of my condition and how life can literally change in an instant.

At my first infusion, I was greeted by Lindsey, the Nurse Tech. She was warm, considerate, and did everything to make me feel comfortable and less lonely. Jamie and Casey, the infusion nurses, introduced themselves with the same compassion that Lindsey had met me with, and did an excellent job explaining the process. They treated me with respect and asked me questions about myself, not clinical ones, but genuine questions, like you were catching up with an old friend. After that initial infusion, I wasn’t scared anymore, and most importantly, I no longer dreaded having to go there each month.

I’ve been receiving infusions each month since October 2024, and each time I arrive, Lindsey, Jamie, and Casey greet me with a smile, ensure I’m comfortable, and we pick up where we left off, as if no time had passed. Without their support, this would be a much lonelier, isolating experience. Instead, I look forward to seeing them and continue to admire their commitment to excellent care, not just with me, but with all guests receiving infusions. I feel blessed to have met them during this profound experience, and I hope they’ll be with me a long way on my MS journey.
