I’ve never, ever had a caretaker treat me in such an amazing way.
I came in to have a stress test to check my heart for a possible upcoming surgery. The day before I came in for this visit, I was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer, which has already consumed the entire prostate and 5 surrounding lymph nodes. My mental state was a disastrous mess. I felt like, at age 51, my life was over. I have a wife, 4 kids, and 2 grandkids. The thoughts running through my head were more than I could handle. As soon as I walked in, Mr. Kuntz immediately saw the pain in my eyes and asked if I was ok. I just told him I was under a lot of stress. I began to tell him my story. I began to tell him how I felt that I was letting my family down, and I didn’t want to leave them. He consoled me. He was genuinely concerned and spent time talking with me. Without him, I don’t think I could have done my stress test that day. I cried, I laughed, I smiled, and I cried some more. After I finished my test, I felt better. As I was leaving, he asked if he could pray for me. He said, “And I take my praying very seriously”. I said, of course you can. So, with all this said, I’ve never, ever had a caretaker treat me in such an amazing way. If everybody in this world was a little more like James, it would be a lot better place to be. I am truly grateful for him, and you are very lucky to have a man like him in your hospital.
