Jade worked with the volunteer service to provide the patient a small birthday celebration, including a teddy bear for the patient's daughter.
Jade has been described by multiple patients and family members as kind, compassionate and caring, a good listener, and a shoulder to lean on. No matter how busy she may be in a shift, she always makes time to speak to her patients/their families one-on-one. She stops what she is doing to give them her undivided attention. Her patients have stated that she makes them feel like they are the only person in the building. Her ability to develop a trusting and open relationship with her patients is incredible. She embodies the core values of what a nurse really is.
Today, Jade is caring for a patient on One Legacy. It is the patient's birthday. The patient was killed in a tragic unexpected accident. She efficiently and effectively prioritized all of the important medical tasks to ensure that she had time to properly help the family grieve. The patient has a very young daughter and several young nieces. She switched her focus to the patient's daughter and set up an arts and crafts table in the patient's room. She helped the patient's daughter color and make pictures for her dad. Then, she personally called child life, volunteer services, and the MICU to arrange their 3 wishes program. She worked with the volunteer service to provide the patient a small birthday celebration, including a teddy bear for the patient's daughter.
This is the type of work she does every single day. It's no wonder that patients come back to the ICU just to see their favorite nurse. Her amazing work goes unrecognized because she makes it look so easy. A patient recently referred to her as an angel. The only thing she is missing is wings.
