She continually reassured me that I am in good hands, things get worse before they get better.
When I arrived at Lankenau, I honestly didn’t know if I was going to leave the hospital being able to see. I contracted cellulitis on my face, and it quickly overtook my right eye. My eye was swollen so much I could barely open it. I spent the early morning hours in the ED, absolutely terrified. Later Wednesday morning, I was moved to a room, but my panic had gone too far. I was convinced my eyesight was going to be gone in my right eye. Jada was my first night nurse, she was caring and reassuring that I was in good hands. Thursday morning my peak day, everything got worse. I woke up and couldn’t open my right eye at all, and now my left eye was starting to swell. I hit that nurse button, and I know they could hear the fear and panic in my voice. Jada came in with grace, a positive attitude, and warm wash cloths. She calmed me down and simply asked, “Stuck shut or swollen shut?”. It was then that I realized just more swollen, not stuck shut. She helped me bring the swelling down in my right eye enough with the warm cloths until I could slightly open it again. She continually reassured me that I am in good hands, things get worse before they get better.

Friday night, I had Jada again. We got to reconnect about my panic and how far I had come in a day or two. During the day on Friday, we had lost all of my IVs. The IV they were able to get had become extremely painful by the time Jada had arrived. Seeing a familiar face allowed me to feel comfortable enough to tell her how uncomfortable the IV was. She listened to me and went to get new IV materials. Jada went out of her way to stick a vein in a spot I requested. Which was not easy because my veins were rolling like crazy. Jada did it with such ease and made it look easy. Jada is a wonderful nurse. She was patient, attentive, graceful, positive, and got the job done while keeping me calm the entire time. I cannot thank Jada enough for showing me the light at the end of the tunnel that was caving in on me. I will be leaving Lankenau with all of my vision. She was so bright and cheerful, like the sun was shining. She took excellent care of me during my stay at the hospital.
