Jackie advocated for everything that would make my dad comfortable in his final days.
Jackie cared for my father throughout his three-week hospitalization while he was on hospice. Every time we saw that Jackie would be his night shift nurse, our family knew he was in the best hands. We felt safe leaving him, knowing he couldn’t speak or move for himself. Jackie advocated for everything that would make my dad comfortable in his final days.
On his final night, Jackie was his nurse again. A family friend stayed with him overnight, and there was an hour-and-a-half gap before my mom would arrive. When my mom got there, Jackie was sitting at my dad’s bedside so that he wouldn’t be alone. She stayed an hour and a half past her shift so he would have someone who cared about him by his side. This act of kindness was so touching and heartfelt, and it will always stay with our family.
All of the 2-South nurses were wonderful throughout my dad’s hospitalization, but we are especially grateful to Jackie for her unbelievable compassion and kindness.
