Jacque's action represents outstanding clinical care and should be so recognized.
I am writing to recognize an exceptional nurse who recently had a positive impact on patient care. I was staffing the practice. Nurse Jacque was working in the clinic and previewed a consultation chart for a patient to be seen by me later that day. She used a questioning attitude when reviewing the data. She reviewed the measurement documented in the report and the conversion to a % did not match. She recognized that the pathology report had an internal error in the percentage. This case had already been presented at a conference, attended by multiple specialty physicians, and this discovery was not unearthed. She didn’t wait to present her concerns to me. She took the initiative to ensure that the pathology department could review and correct the error without delay. Her attention to detail and quick action allowed for me to get accurate data prior to seeing the patient. Her discovery had a critical impact on patient care and outcomes. Based on recognized guidelines this amendment changed treatment recommendations. More specifically, with the updated pathology correction and re-staging meant that a treatment was no longer recommended. I met with the patient and informed her that we would not recommend the previously discussed treatment. The patient was aware that a team member unearthed a discrepancy. When she met Jacque that day in person she was so moved by all of Jacque's actions that she asked to give her a huge hug! I believe Jacque's action represents outstanding clinical care and should be so recognized.
