On the first night of our 47-day stay, our ex-35 weeker/5-week-old had been admitted and life-flighted from Sugarland for severe respiratory distress. It was a level of stress, fear, and absolute disorientation I had never known. Jacob was there to guide us through the first few nights. We didn’t know the lingo or what was happening, but he was calm, patient, and caring. He was gentle with our daughter as well as with us. He made us feel safe, so even though we were terrified, we knew there was more they could do. I didn’t have context for those first few nights to understand how truly excellent Jacob was, but I sensed peace, levity, and connection each night when he walked in. We are eternally grateful to everyone who supported us and cared for our daughter; each of you holds a special place in our hearts and minds forever.
