Jacob often undertakes the role of Stat Nurse, one of a superb group of nurses that serves the emergent needs of all decompensating patients throughout the hospital.
On one particular day, there was a horrible Code Blue in the Cath Lab. With it being a weekend, the Cath Lab had only a skeleton crew of staff, which limited their ability to provide high-quality ACLS. I myself jumped in to assist with the resuscitation effort, which gave me a great first-hand perspective to witness Jacob in action.
The physician in charge wanted to step out of the room to call the patient's family to urgently alert them of his status, and identified Jacob to take over the leadership role of the Code Blue. Jacob gracefully took over, remained calm, and perfectly followed all ACLS protocols.
It was very clear that his critical care skills and questioning mindset are ingrained within him, not only from this particular circumstance, but in all instances of patient care I have witnessed him partake in at Tacoma General.
He consistently has a positive attitude, never shying away from the smallest task, such as delivering an Art Line Clip, or the biggest task, such as providing total care for multi-system illnesses/injuries.
He is a true asset to our hospital; our patients are lucky to have him as a caregiver, and our nurses are lucky to have him as a role model.
