“After going through something as intense and emotional as childbirth, you find yourself in a raw, vulnerable place – sleep-deprived, overwhelmed, and unsure of what comes next. That’s when we met Jacob, and he was exactly who we needed. Jacob had this calm, grounded presence that immediately put us at ease. He explained everything to us clearly, which meant so much when our brains were foggy from exhaustion. He would always tell us what he was doing and when he would be back – and he always followed through. That simple consistency helped us feel safe, seen, and cared for. What truly amazed us, though, was the way he interacted with our baby. Jacob is absolutely the baby whisperer. He completed our baby’s vital signs and assessments without ever really waking him – no crying, no stress. Just this peaceful connection between nurse and newborn that felt like magic. There was also a moment that really stayed with us: when Jacob was doing a fundal check, he turned to my wife and asked if she wanted to feel it too. It might seem small, but it meant so much. Instead of just doing the assessment and moving on, he included us – explained what he was feeling for and invited us into the process. That gesture helped us feel informed, respected, and like we were truly part of our care. And on top of all that, Jacob was a master of the whiteboard – especially impressive as a night nurse. Not only did he keep it updated, but he added his own thoughtful touches – including the times he planned to return. It was such a small detail, but it reflected his commitment to excellent communication and care. His whiteboard use should honestly be held up as a best practice throughout the hospital. We felt so much trust and appreciation for Jacob. His quiet excellence, attention to detail, and genuine care made our experience on the postpartum unit something we’ll always remember. He embodies what it means to be a nurse.”
