Emotions ran high, and fear hung heavy in the room. Amid that storm, Nurse Ina Mae became our anchor.
There are rare moments during a hospital stay when a patient or their family encounters not just a capable nurse, but a beacon of compassion, dignity, and quiet strength. For me, that person was Nurse Ina Mae Cebrero.
One evening, our family was faced with difficult decisions about a loved one's critical neurosurgical condition. Emotions ran high, and fear hung heavy in the room. Amid that storm, Nurse Ina Mae became our anchor.
She didn't just perform her clinical duties with precision—she explained every procedure patiently, sat with us through the uncertainty, and offered comfort with a gentleness that words can't capture. At one point, I found her holding my mother's hand through the night, long after her shift had technically ended.
She has a gift for seeing people, not just patients. She treated our loved one with immense respect, always preserving his dignity despite his vulnerability. She advocated tirelessly to ensure his pain was managed, that we were informed, and that he felt safe.
Her extraordinary clinical expertise, her calm presence during critical moments, and her emotional intelligence exemplify the essence of what the DAISY Award celebrates. Ina Mae doesn't ask for recognition—she simply gives, and gives, and gives. But I believe it's time we give something back.
For the grace she embodies and the light she brings to Ward 39, I wholeheartedly believe Nurse Ina Mae Cebrero deserves this DAISY Award.
