My father J was recently a patient at TMH on the Cardiac/Neuro Intermediate Care Unit in the Mustian Center (5th floor) and was taken care of by an RN named Hunter. It was J’s first hospitalization after being diagnosed with a lung disease, and it’s been quite a scary and difficult time, but Hunter made him feel very safe. J was so impressed by how experienced and competent he was, especially for being so young! It was clear that he knew what he was doing when it came to the clinical care of my dad, but his best qualities were his graciousness and his positivity. He recognized every member of my family and always greeted us by name with such genuine warmth. Being able to joke around with J, never making him feel like a burden—despite his shortness of breath and limited mobility—made such a huge difference to this unfamiliar and scary experience for him and our family. We can’t thank Hunter enough for being a part of my dad’s care, and we hope he gets recognized for his compassionate work today and every day.
