Nurse Holly made my labor and delivery nothing short of magical and empowering. Powers Health is extremely blessed to have an employee like her. She not only is a wonderful nurse but also a preceptor. Katrina (who was also great) will become an extraordinary nurse if she continues to take in all Nurse Holly has to offer.
I worked hard all my pregnancy to achieve a VBAC, and I KNOW I WOULDN'T have been successful had it not been for having the great fortune that is Nurse Holly. She DID NOT come to work that morning to keep a seat warm. Once she came to my room for my induction, she didn't leave. She took time to educate me, reassure me, and used all her educational resources to help me VBAC.
I took great comfort in knowing she was very knowledgeable in her craft. She never made me feel like I wasn't doing enough or that I was going too slow. She even took time to game plan with the Doctor at the foot of my bed, on my side the whole time, speaking words of encouragement and positivity. During all this, I got to hear how much of a wonderful teacher she was to Katrina. Leading her with patience and kindness, never condescending, and answered all of her questions.
Nurse Holly explained to us (and Nurse Katrina) that she took the "Spinning Babies" education offered by the hospital, and she used every bit of that education. She worked my body after my epidural to ensure it kept doing what I needed to help it VBAC. So, I'd also like to thank the hospital for investing in their staff; it shows in the care they give.
Even when her 12-hour shift was coming to an end, she didn't make me feel like I was just another case to pass off to the next nurse. Her exit and delivery of me to a new nurse was calm and gentle, just like her energy the whole 12 hours. She kept my birth plan in mind and made sure I was accommodated every time she could. Any family would be very happy to have Nurse Holly part of their birth story. I will sing her praise every chance I get. Thank you, Nurse Holly!
