There was so much I didn't understand, and Nurse Davis took the time to explain. I felt at ease as if I were in nursing school.
I want to talk about my experience here at St. John's Hospital. I live in the community and come here quite a few times a month, especially now that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer. We are mostly admitted on the 8th floor, but this time they sent us to the 11th floor. This was like night and day.
I don't know where to start. My experience here over the past 11 days has been exceptional! It started out with the nurse in charge coming into my room to ensure I was given the best care of the food, so the cleaning of my mother's room was done extraordinarily well.
I want to make special mention of Nurse Davis. She wasn't my mother's nurse, but the original manager Monique, wasn't there for a few days, and nurse Davis filled the gap. Let me explain my experience: the nurse assigned was a new nurse, I could tell, and I complained, but she assured me my mother would get good care. Sheesh, I could hear her outside the door, coaching the nurse, telling her what to do and how to do it. My mother is a vegetarian, and the kitchen kept messing up the order. Nurse Davis came to the rescue.
When the medication isn't working, Nurse Davis comes to the rescue again. My mother started to mess herself and she came and helped me change her. There was so much I didn't understand, and Nurse Davis took the time to explain. I felt at ease as if I were in nursing school. She even helped me with an overnight pass. I felt so wholesome that my mother was going to leave this earth with dignity. I told her that the unit felt like home, and she said, "You have a family." I sobbed even though she never saw me, but I just want to tell the world how my mother was treated in her last days. Up to the very last breath, Nurse Davis helped us. She is such a polite and grateful nurse, and what makes this most special is that the team was right there with her. This is big for my mother, for me and my family, and even the community. St John's, or should I say the "new S. John's, You Rock!
