I am writing to take a moment to brag about one of my nurses. Hilary is a fantastic nurse. She came to us as a brand-new nurse fresh out of school, and while she arrived nervous, she came with the most compassionate heart. She goes above and beyond, not only for our patients but also for their families. She is a true example of 'Nursing is a work of Heart.' She pours her heart and soul into caring for our patients and their families, addressing whatever needs they may have. If a patient is declining, she makes sure to sit with the family and explain things to them, helping them understand what is going on, not just as the nurse caring for them, but as someone who truly cares. If she knows a patient is in their last moments of life, she sits next to them and holds their hand until they take their last breath. If it is in her control, she will never let a patient take their last breath alone. She forms true bonds with them. I have seen her laugh with them, cry with them, and carry them through their time in the facility. Families call and brag about Hilary to me all of the time. We see a lot pf patients that leave to go home and end up back with us a month or so later, it never fails, if they had Hilary as a nurse the previous stay, they are asking for her again. She has had patients that end up moving to the inpatient hospice unit, she makes sure to visit them and their family each day until they pass away. Families have come to me to express how much she has meant to them on their hardest days and how she has made them better. Not only is she amazing with her patients, but she is also a true example of a team player to her coworkers. She is always there to help anyone who needs it. Her coworkers love working with her due to her kind heart and good attitude. So please consider Hilary for this award. She deserves this award and so much more.
