After a routine dressing change, Heidi took the time to do my patient's hair and brush her teeth without any prompt or request on my end. She made a special effort to help my patient feel seen, valued, and comfortable, going well beyond the expected work she had assigned for this patient.

My patient noted to me that she was very appreciative of this gesture, and I was too. On top of all of this, before leaving the unit, Heidi took an extra minute to write me a note of encouragement. This assignment with this specific patient was particularly emotional for me, so finding a note of encouragement was a ray of sunshine on an otherwise heavy shift.

Heidi’s selflessness made both my day and my patients' day, and I hope she knows how sweet and lovely an influence she is. Heidi’s actions made me feel more sure of the job I was doing and helped me to see how important it is to slow down and look beyond the clinical side of care.
