Heidi consistently demonstrates exceptional clinical skill and compassionate care, making her an outstanding role model for patients, their families, and our staff. She embodies professionalism through accountability, advocacy, and the highest standards of nursing practice, while showing empathy, selflessness, and enthusiasm in everything she does. Through her teamwork, communication, and clinical excellence, she has made an incredible impact on our critical care unit.

I have had the privilege of watching Heidi grow over the last 10 years—from a PCT to a new graduate critical care resident, and now to an exceptionally strong and highly respected critical care nurse. It is not one single moment that defines her, but the consistency of her compassion, dedication, and excellence. She is a leader, a mentor, and a nurse deeply valued by her patients, colleagues, and providers.

Heidi goes above and beyond for her patients every day. Whether it is walking to CVS in the middle of the night to buy shampoo, nail polish, or small personal items, honoring patient birthdays, or gathering staff to create moments of dignity and celebration, she finds ways to make patients feel human during their most vulnerable moments. She ensures even the smallest wishes are met, whether it is a bite of chocolate or a mouth swab with a touch of coffee, because she understands how meaningful these small acts can be.

On one particularly difficult day, Heidi cared for a patient who had suffered a cardiac arrest on her 85th birthday. She was critically ill, intubated, the sickest patient on the unit, requiring multiple vasopressors and placement of a Swan. Her husband, after more than 60 years of marriage, refused to leave her side. While providing exceptional care to this patient, Heidi also gave her husband unwavering compassion and emotional support, ensuring he never felt alone during one of the most devastating moments of his life.

As the morning came, Heidi noticed him still at the bedside, exhausted and heartbroken. After her shift had ended, she went to the cafeteria and returned around 8 a.m. with a full breakfast and coffee for him. Watching her walk back into the room to care for him, even after clocking out, was a powerful reminder that Heidi’s compassion does not end when her shift does.

This moment is only one example of who Heidi is. She provides this level of care every single day. As a provider, there is an immediate sense of comfort knowing Heidi is on shift. Her clinical intuition, intelligence, calm presence, and clear communication consistently strengthen patient care. She is a trusted mentor, a resource to her peers, and the embodiment of what an exceptional critical care nurse should be.

Thank you, Heidi, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
