I am honored to nominate Heather Lopardo, RN, for the DAISY Award because she truly embodies what it means to be an extraordinary nurse. Heather has served on our Cardiac Heart Failure Unit as a Bedside nurse, charge nurse, admissions/discharge nurse, Admissions/Discharge Nurse and now our Clinical Expeditor. In every role, she approaches every patient and team member with compassion, professionalism, and an exceptional work ethic. What stands out most about Heather is the genuine care she shows every patient. She never sees them as just another admission or discharge. She takes the time to listen, comfort, educate, and advocate for each person she encounters. Watching her interact with patients is inspiring. Even on the busiest days, she remains calm, kind, and fully present. She has an incredible ability to make every patient feel like their top priority, and that level of compassion comes naturally to her.

One moment that has stayed with me happened when Heather asked me to help wheel one of our patients and his mother to the Emergency Department. It wasn't simply another transport. Heather recognized that this family needed more than clinical care; they needed kindness, dignity, and someone willing to walk beside them during an incredibly difficult moment. As we accompanied them, she spoke with such warmth and compassion, making sure they felt supported every step of the way. She treated them like family, not just patients. That experience reminded me that nursing is about so much more than medications and procedures. It is about being present for people during some of the hardest moments of their lives. I know neither Heather nor I will ever forget that patient and his mother, and I believe they will never forget the compassion Heather showed them.

Heather has also had a tremendous personal impact on me. I started working on the Heart Failure Unit last year at 23 years old as a monitor technician, and learning telemetry was overwhelming at first. Heather never made me feel intimidated or afraid to ask questions. Every shift, she takes the time to teach me, explain cardiac rhythms, point out subtle telemetry changes, and share her clinical knowledge. She is always willing to offer guidance and encouragement, helping me grow in both confidence and skill. Heather doesn't teach because she has to; she teaches because she genuinely wants others to succeed. She invests in those around her and creates an environment where learning is encouraged, and everyone feels supported. Her mentorship has helped shape me into a better monitor technician, and I know I am just one of many people whose career she has positively influenced.

Heather exemplifies excellence in nursing through her clinical expertise, leadership, mentorship, and, above all, the compassion she extends to every patient she encounters. She makes our unit stronger, our team better, and our patients feel truly cared for. She is the kind of nurse every patient hopes to have and every healthcare professional hopes to work alongside. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of the DAISY Award than Heather. She makes a difference every single day without seeking recognition or praise. She leads with both her heart and her expertise, inspiring everyone around her to become better caregivers. Heather represents the very best of nursing, and I wholeheartedly believe she deserves to be recognized with the DAISY Award.

Thank you, Heather, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
