She has created a positive atmosphere where staff know she is always available for them.
It is an honor to nominate Heather for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. Heather leads the dedicated, compassionate staff on 8NW, CPCU.

Heather has been a strong supporter of Nursing Shared Governance and the manager representative to the Advocacy, Service, and Community Council since 2015. In this role, she provides support and guidance to the council, maintaining the principles and practices of shared governance. She is curious and asks the important questions for this team when working on the hospital-wide projects, such as the Breakfast Box initiative, Nurses Week, and the DAISY and Rose Awards.

Advocacy and Safety for nurses is important to Heather. She participates in the hospital safety staff committee and is a WELLE trainer. As the nurse manager of 8NWCPCU, Heather leads her staff with kindness, compassion, and respect. She has created a positive atmosphere where staff know she is always available for them.

A longtime staff member shared this note: I have been working with Heather for the past 7-8 years, since she started as our manager here on 8 North. The word dedicated comes to mind; dedicated to quality and compassion in caring for our patients. She worked tirelessly and relentlessly in leading us through the terrible COVID times: a general with her troops. Always the first to arrive and the last to leave. Heather is committed to shared governance, which is evident in the day-to-day running of the unit.

Heather is also just a very kind person; this comes through in all of her personal interactions with staff and patients. At the same time, she is lighthearted with a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. For all of these reasons, it is wonderful to work with Heather. If not for her, I'd be long retired. Heather is a wonderful resource to her staff and Advocacy, Service, and Community Council members. Her gentle, calm, and confident approach with her staff and patients is both inspiring and heartwarming. A true role model, Heather is deserving of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award.
