Heather Baughman, ICU RN

My Nana recently went into cardiac arrest. The amazing team in the ICU at Franciscan St. Anthony was able to bring her back. One of the nurses that took care of Nana during this difficult time was Heather. Heather is truly a fantastic nurse. She answered every question my mom, my dad, or I had. She also ensured that we understood everything that was going on.

Heather was also extremely attentive to Nana, always checking her IV pump and emptying her catheter bag and surgical drain frequently. She also talked to us while she was taking care of Nana. We talked about baseball, being a nurse, and much more.

Throughout this crisis, Heather provided both a sense of comfort and a sense of normalcy. She helped us recall some of the precious moments we had shared with Nana throughout her life. While taking care of Nana, Heather also made sure to take care of us. She reminded us that it was okay to go home and take a break from being at the hospital. She also reminded us to eat when it was close to mealtimes.

While this situation has been extremely difficult and emotional, Heather has helped ease the nerves of my entire family, including me. Seeing a loved one in such critical and delicate condition is hard, but Heather helped assure us that Nana was in good hands. Without Heather, this journey would have been much more difficult and much more nerve-wracking. Heather truly shows that she cares for her patients and that she is passionate about her job. It is because of this that Heather deserves a DAISY award.
