I came in on a Tuesday night with an obstructed/inflamed small bowel. I had an NG placed in the ED and admitted upstairs to the 4th floor. As I was being moved I saw Hawo in the hallway waving and welcoming. Immediately she started joking around and you could tell how much she changed or affected her coworkers' mood. She immediately uplifted mine.

Putting in an NG tube is no fun, actually pretty miserable so changing my mood was not an easy task. She set me up, made sure I was comfortable and continued to check in on me. Every single time making me laugh or smile. At night I looked forward to her shift starting in the morning. Not because other nurses weren't nice but because her energy, attitude, and compassion were electric.

When they said they were going to take my NG tube out I was close to having a panic attack, but she came in talked to me, and made me feel like it would be alright. She did it seamlessly. When I pumped breastmilk, she offered to store it cold for me which removed a little stress from being away from my baby for so long. I am very excited to go home but I will surely miss her and her energy. Thank you, Hawo.
