We recently had two very medically complicated patients at the same time on our unit. Both were hitting the peak of the detox at the same time. Harlee was a shining example of professionalism and a positive attitude. These situations can become especially stressful. As the primary registered nurse for both patients, she successfully fulfilled the role of team lead. While doing this, she also remained very aware of not only their medical needs but also the emotional needs of each patient. Through every step, she took the time and attention to explain what was happening and provided reassurance. Throughout, she also remained a steadfast advocate for her patients, making sure their needs and concerns were recognized and addressed. She was not afraid to be the 'squeaky wheel' to get to the patient every needed resource. This day was an example of her ability to provide exceptional medical care with professionalism, a positive attitude, and compassion even through times of increased stress.
