Hannah is a very strong charge nurse. She is always looking out for everyone on the team, no matter the role. Shift to shift, you will see her checking in on nurses, techs, unit secretaries, doctors, therapists, pharmacy, EVS, and the list goes on, but she always makes sure her team is cared for.

On this particular shift, our assigned EVS team member to our unit came in for her shift after being in a terrible car accident where she was T-boned. This EVS team member has great trust and comfort with Hannah, so she came and told her about it and was actually just looking for advice on how to best treat her neck pain with ice or heat.

Well, Hannah didn't stop there; she helped her set up appointments with her insurance, instructed her on what to say and do, and even arranged a translator for these conversations, as English is not the team member's first language.

This EVS team member was so grateful for her advice and leadership during this time that Hannah, without a second thought, stopped what she was doing, handed off her patients to another RN, and spent time with this team member until they were taken care of; no matter if she was involved in work or not, she just cares.

I believe this highlights all the qualities of being a nurse: that it doesn't matter the situation or circumstance, you never stop caring for your team, patients, or anyone you come across.

To Hannah, that is just what you do, but to that team member, it meant more than just a 30-minute conversation helping a fellow colleague.

Thank you, Hannah, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
