I wanted to put some genuine thought into this DAISY nomination as Hannah truly deserves recognition for the nursing care and interdisciplinary teamwork she demonstrated. Hannah was working in the psychiatric ER POD on this day, and oh boy, I can say it was a revolving door for high-acuity psych patients.

She did not hesitate to work closely with me (3B CCL) in communicating patient needs and providing me with information for preparation of patient care. At one point while I was gathering information, she informed me, in the most caring tone, that she was currently ambulating with this patient and she was doing a fantastic job.

She later informed me (when the patient was not around) that she was demonstrating a weak gait, difficulty in redirection, and would benefit from a Posey bed for fall prevention. I had mentioned that it may take some time for us to get a posey bed (working on SU) and she did not verbalize any irritation and happily asked me to inform her when we were ready.

The next patient we received was a very high acuity, well-known (to our unit) individual. Before a one-call was even completed, she called me ahead of time to give me pertinent information for not only the safety of this patient but the safety of our staff (this patient can be extremely violent).

While this individual was not very well known to Hannah, she did not hesitate to take any advice I had to give when caring for this individual. Because of this communication, we were able to have a smooth and safe transition for these patients and staff.

It is not often that I can say communication between different departments has been above expectation or even met expectations, but in this instance, it was beyond any transfer I have been a part of.

I hope that, with this recognition, Hannah can be acknowledged not only for her hard work and patient care but also for her participation in and encouragement of teamwork. Working in psychiatry is not for everyone, and maybe it isn't even Hannah's favorite, but what I experienced today was a demonstration of empathy and true compassion.

I can honestly say that if I have a family member experiencing an emergency mental health crisis, I hope Hannah is there to care for them.
