The patient’s daughter described Hannah as “friendly, kind, caring, and sociable.” The daughter said that Hannah “made us feel like we were the only people she had to take care of. She puts patients at ease.”

On Sunday, Hannah began her commute to work the same as any other day. As she approached the intersection, she became aware of a motorcyclist who had been struck by a vehicle. She got out of her vehicle and immediately assessed the individual with an absent pulse. She sprang into action and began CPR until EMS arrived on the scene. The patient was transported to a local trauma center, and unfortunately, they succumbed to his injuries.

Hannah’s actions were admirable and nothing short of exemplifying what it is to be a nurse. Her quick thinking and immediate actions gave the motorcyclist a fighting chance. Hannah could have driven by, but she made the decision to stop and intervene. Her compassion and genuine concern for others are seen each shift in her patient care. Though on this day, it was showcased beyond the walls of Franciscan.
