This nurse spent two days at the bedside of a very difficult, confused, impulsive patient. This patient was exhausting to work with. However, Hannah consistently demonstrated patience, kindness, and compassion beyond our expectations. She treated this patient with dignity and respect, even when he was unkind to her. She spoke kindly to him, took him on walks, rubbed his back to soothe and calm him, and repeatedly treated him as a human whose life has dignity and value. She sacrificed lunch and bathroom breaks to care for this patient’s well-being. She did all of this without complaining and with a smile on her face. Working alongside her was a humbling experience, and she made me want to be a better, kinder, and more patient nurse and person. It is an honor to work alongside her, and I am so thankful to have her on our team!
