Mr. R was declining and became a hospice patient. Haley was the nurse for him. Mr. R’s wife was also admitted to one of our med-surg floors. Haley coordinated with T, RN, assigned to Mrs. R’s room, and took over care for Mrs. R temporarily so she could stay in CCU and be with her husband in his last moments. Haley transported Mrs. R on her own from 488 to CCU10. She made a spot right next to him so she could hold his hand throughout the shift. She coordinated medical care with T, RN, to ensure Mrs. R was still getting the medical care she needed, while providing Mr. R with high-quality care. She arranged for all close family members to be there and took on Mrs. R as another patient. This act goes above and beyond any type of care I’ve witnessed from any nurse and can only hope someone would go out of their way/busy shift to provide me with care like this in my own future.
