Haley stayed with me—calm, steady, and reassuring.
I delivered my daughter under circumstances I never expected, and I truly believe I wouldn’t have made it through without Nurse Haley Jean by my side. From the very beginning of my induction, when I unexpectedly began to hemorrhage, Haley stayed with me—calm, steady, and reassuring. She didn’t leave my side, and she spoke to me in a way that helped me breathe through the fear. I knew in those moments that she was fully present, fully aware, and fully committed to keeping me safe. When my birth suddenly turned into an emergency C-section that required me to be put under, I was terrified. Haley was there in the rush of it all, holding space for me and telling me that everything would be okay. And she was there again when I woke up—still watching over me, still making sure I never felt alone. Her calm presence meant everything in the scariest moments of my life. There was a detail I had held onto throughout my pregnancy: I wanted the “baby born” music to play when my daughter entered the world. But because of the emergency, that couldn’t happen. The next morning—after she had already finished her shift—Haley came to find us in postpartum. She stood there in our room, played the music, and gave us that moment we lost. She didn’t have to do that. But she saw us, remembered us, and cared enough to make it happen. Haley is the kind of nurse who embodies what the DAISY Award stands for, and she deserves to be recognized for the extraordinary care she gives.
