Hailey also took the time to listen to Zoom calls and with family when we came in and got to know C as a person. This was more important to us than I can ever describe.
Our son C was brought to Johns Hopkins after an accident and was in the neuro ICU until his passing days later. This was the most difficult time our family has ever experienced. C was visiting a friend in DC when the accident occurred. We live in Ohio and did not have the benefit of local support. This was also during COVID, which meant we were only able to visit C twice during this 2 week time period.
Hailey had C during all of her shifts while he was a patient. We were so grateful that she chose to request him as a patient. C was in a coma the majority of the time and on a ventilator and feeding tube the entire time. C loved music and had it playing all the time at home and in the car. We asked that this occur at the hospital. Hailey made sure that everyone was aware and that the music was on. She took the time to speak with him as though he was conscious. She also took the time to listen to Zoom calls and with family when we came in and got to know C as a person. This was more important to us than I can ever describe.
Since we were not able to be in the hospital with him and sitting in a hotel room, the days that Hailey was working gave us additional peace. If she was busy when we called to speak to C or ask about his health she always took the time and if she was busy always called us back. In this time of COVID and being away from home, Hailey helped us to feel like someone who cared was taking care of our loved one.
Hailey was with us when C passed. He was set to be an organ donor and as difficult as the walk to the OR was, she made it special. She made sure the music was playing and spoke to C on the trip to OR. We have shared this story with many people and can never thank her enough for the truly wonderful patient care she provided.
