Throughout his 12-hour shift, he remained dedicated, never taking a break, and his commitment to high-quality care never wavered.
I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the exceptional care my son-in-law received in the OHICU, particularly during his transfer. He was immediately managed by a team of three doctors and three nurses, undergoing rapid RSI and aggressive treatment for both cardiogenic and septic shock. His condition was critical, and the underlying diagnosis remained uncertain. The patient was of extremely high acuity. For my daughter, seeing her high school sweetheart in such a vulnerable state now with ten more access points and a rapidly evolving clinical picture was incredibly emotional. His lab results were all over the place, reflecting severe infection, electrolyte imbalances, dehydration, cardiac distress, neurological concerns, and acidosis.
Throughout the night, I stayed by my daughter’s side, helping her process the constant changes and challenges. Every hour brought new developments, some expected, some more difficult than the last. In my 25+ years in healthcare education and leadership, I have rarely witnessed a team as impressive as this one.
Though I only met Nurse Haden briefly, his impact was undeniable. From the moment he stepped into the room, he was mission-focused, fully understanding the priorities at hand. Throughout his 12-hour shift, he remained dedicated, never taking a break, and his commitment to high-quality care never wavered. On the rare occasion that he needed assistance, he efficiently called for an item or a helping hand, but at no point did we feel the need to interrupt him; his focus and expertise were evident. Even as his shift ended, he remained at the bedside, ensuring my son-in-law’s care was seamless, managing dozens of orders, lines, circuits, pressure bags, and medications with precision. I cannot emphasize enough how critically ill my son-in-law is or was. We recognize the gravity of his condition and the uncertainty of what the coming days may bring. It is essential to acknowledge that, while he remains borderline stable, we never felt as though he worsened, a testament to the extraordinary care he has received.
