Where others might assume that because he was asleep, he wasn't in pain, Gwen knew better. She got to know him that well.
My son suffered 3rd degree burns to his left arm and upper chest. He was admitted for a month. During that month he was taken back for surgery and had debridement done every day for 2 weeks. He also had skin grafting done. For every single post-op, Gwen was there. He underwent some extremely rough debridements and Gwen took care of my son like he was her own. She kept his pain level managed and kept my baby as comfortable as she possibly could. Where others might assume that because he was asleep, he wasn't in pain, Gwen knew better. She got to know him that well. Gwen stayed late several times after her shift was over just to make sure he was properly taken care of. And he always was, because Gwen cared for my baby that much. She came in early and stayed late just for him.

The day he was discharged after his last surgery, she came and found him just to say goodbye. Once he was discharged, we continued to come back twice a week for dressing changes. He was put under anesthesia every time.

Since day one Gwen still continues to look after my baby. If she isn't his nurse, she comes over just to check on him. She's probably seen my baby awake 3 or 4 times. He's probably had 40+ surgeries. I haven't met a nurse in my 36 years that will take care of my baby better than I do, but Ms. Gwen is one of them. She continues to amaze me. She's family now. I truly don't know how I would have made it through these couple of months without her.
