I am writing to nominate Grishma Patel for the DAISY Award because she consistently demonstrates extraordinary compassion, clinical excellence, and genuine human connection in every patient encounter. One moment in particular shows just how special she is. Recently, she was caring for a patient who was anxious, in pain, and struggling with the emotional impact of a difficult diagnosis. Instead of simply completing her tasks, Grishma pulled up a chair, sat with the patient at eye level, and listened with patience, empathy, and complete presence. She explained every step of the plan of care in a calm, reassuring tone and advocated for adjustments that improved the patient's comfort almost immediately. Later that evening, the patient began to cry, overwhelmed by fear and uncertainty. Grishma gently held her hand, reminded her she wasn’t alone, and stayed until she felt safe enough to rest. The patient later told me, “She made me feel human again. She made me feel like I mattered.” Beyond her compassion, her clinical skill is exceptional. She anticipates needs before they arise, communicates clearly with physicians and families, and maintains a level of professionalism and kindness that uplifts the entire unit. She is the nurse you want at the bedside when things are hard. Grishma embodies the essence of the DAISY Award. Her heart, her skill, and her unwavering dedication transform the experience of every patient she touches. She makes our unit better, our patients safer, and our team stronger. She is truly extraordinary and absolutely deserving of this recognition.

Grishma was very skilled and kind. When things were brought to her attention, she gave it her all to see issues through. She searched for my personal BP machine, which I swore was here, only to learn it was brought home. Grishma is a caring soul and kept reassuring me as I needed throughout the day. Her skills and character are a true asset to JFK.
