Gorget did everything she could to ensure my father could see the dog. When one thing didn't work, she tried another. She kept trying until he finally saw the dog. It meant the world to me.
My 91-year-old father with late-stage dementia was admitted to the hospital for dysphagia. While the care at this hospital is always wonderful, Gorget stood out for the genuine warmth and tenderness in her words and demeanor.

Our family arranged for my father's favorite companion, a dog, to visit him from outside his window one last time. I asked Gorget if she could help ensure my father was positioned so he could see the dog outside the window. Despite the terminal agitation and aggression my father was displaying, Gorget did everything she could to ensure my father could see the dog. When one thing didn't work, she tried another. She kept trying until he finally saw the dog. It meant the world to me.

When I finally left the hospital to give my father the privacy I felt he was waiting for, she called me to let me know he had passed, then comforted me when I arrived back at the hospital afterward.

Gorget is a shining example of the best parts of our humanity, and that humanity makes a tremendous difference in how we experience the events of our lives. I will always be grateful for the comfort her actions provided me in my father's final hours.
