Gloria is extremely compassionate about her patients. She has gone above and beyond for her patients and co-workers time and time again. Recently, she orchestrated a patient getting a roof over their head at the Extended Stay on Owen Drive, as well as helped to provide food and groceries. This is just one occasion out of many that she has gone above and beyond to help take care of a patient.

Gloria has orchestrated rides, lunches, groceries, a place to rest their head at night, and countless other acts of kindness. Gloria is a perfect example of a nurse who knows how to use her resources! This patient has been a patient of the Cancer Center for a long time. We all love him very much. We had all noticed that he had not been himself the last few visits and seemed to be dropping weight. Gloria, along with a few other staff members, sat down and spoke with him, and we found out that this patient had been living on his brother's back porch for quite some time.

Gloria immediately called for Social Work and Dietary to be involved with this situation. As it turns out, our patient was not allowed inside their home and was not provided meals. Social work spoke with Adult Services, and we worked to get him a place to rest his head. Our Social Worker was able to get him a week at the Extended Stay, but then what would he eat? Gloria, along with several coworkers under her leadership, worked with Social Work to get him groceries and an extra week at the Extended Stay.

Unfortunately, the patient ended up leaving the Extended Stay to go back to his brother’s because he stated that he could at least have people bring him food out there. You can imagine how quickly he ate the groceries that were provided. This situation may not have ended the way we wanted it to, but this is just an example of countless times she has gone above and beyond for our deserving patients.
